A fringe Rangers player who impressed Philippe Clement will see increased playing time.

The boss has seen Sterling’s versatility and strong performances this week.

Dujon Sterling, who has been praised by manager Philippe Clement for his recent efforts in games and in training, is expected to play a bigger role for Rangers.

The 24-year-old, who can play anywhere but mostly as a right-back, joined Rangers from Chelsea in May and agreed to a four-year contract. Though Sterling has only started twice this season and has taken some time to establish himself at Ibrox, the manager of the Gers has taken notice of his three substitute appearances in a row, playing three different positions. In the victory over St. Mirren last weekend, Sterling came on as a left-back substitute for Ridvan Yilmaz, and Clement again showed his mettle. Later on Saturday, after Jose Cifuentes was sent off shortly before halftime, Sterling was asked to play midfield in the 3-1 victory over Dundee at home.

Clement remarked, “He played a really good game in a position he never plays.” “Yet he appears to be putting in a lot of effort in training,” He wants to play every position for as long as possible, and he was crucial as a left full-back against Hearts. Afterwards, against Dundee, he was able to play both right full-back and winger in midfield. Therefore, it is obvious that he will receive more minutes in the upcoming weeks if he continues to press in that manner because he deserves it.

Sterling might play for Rangers in two important forthcoming games next week: on Thursday, they play Real Betis in the Europa League, and on Sunday, they play Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final. Following his red card against Dundee, Cifuentes is expected to serve a suspension for that game at Hampden, though the Ibrox club is considering filing an appeal.
