Gary Lineker teases Micah Richards in ‘screaming’ Rangers Celtic admission

After Micah Richards, a former Manchester City defender, revealed that he was yelling at the Celtic defense when Rabbi Matondo scored Rangers’ late equalizer in the Old Firm derby, Gary Lineker made fun of the player

After Matondo was able to cut in and curl past Joe Hart to tie the game at 3-3 in the 93rd minute, Richards acknowledged that he was pressuring the defenders to show him the other way.

Before Richards clarified that he was watching to keep throughout all of the games and would remain impartial, Lineker joked that Richards was showing off his Celtic fandom.

Richards said, “It was absolutely ferocious,” on Monday, April 8, on the podcast The Rest Is Football. You know, I was yelling at the defender to just show Matondo wide when he got the ball. I’m yelling.

“Is that because you’re a Celtics fan, Micah?” Lineker then asked. Is that the reason you were yelling?

Richards joked, “No, I’m an impartial pundit, so I make sure I’m across all the games Gary.” “What are you doing, though? They’re putting him in the wrong direction,” I thought to myself.

It was an amazing finish, and I knew it was going in when he hit it. He simply bent it, and the final minute of the game saw a fantastic strike.

With only five goals in 54 games since joining the team in July 2022, the Welshman’s career at Ibrox has been interesting thus far.

But under Philippe Clement, Matondo has undoubtedly found his game. In his last eight games, he has scored four goals, including an almost identical goal against Hibernian on March 30.

Rangers have a chance to win just their second Scottish Premiership title in the past ten years, so Clement will be happy that the winger is having a good season at this point.

The Gers moved one step closer to winning the championship, even though they will be disappointed not to defeat their Old Firm rivals. They can move up to the top of the table if they defeat Dundee in their next game on Wednesday, April 10.

Although Clement has already accomplished a great deal at Ibrox, including winning the League Cup earlier in the season, defeating Brendan Rodgers will always rank highly on his resume.

The Belgian will have another opportunity to do this, but for the time being, Rangers’ future will be determined by their performance in the Scottish Premiership games.
