Ward, Elder, Barkhuizen – Derby County injury latest as Rams set for promotion breather

Derby County will have a break this weekend as they don’t have a match due to Wycombe’s involvement in the EFL Trophy final against Peterborough United at Wembley.

Paul Warne’s team will resume action next Wednesday with a trip to Adams’ Park, aiming to secure another victory that would bring them closer to promotion to the Championship.

Ahead of their match against Wycombe, Derby has several injury concerns, as highlighted following their draw with Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

Callum Elder, the Australian defender, has faced numerous injury setbacks this season and is sidelined again after picking up an issue in the Bolton game. The club hopes he’ll return before the season concludes.

Joe Ward, who played a pivotal role in the recent draw against Portsmouth, had to be substituted due to a knee injury. Warne mentioned that he’ll undergo assessment but is expected to be fit for the Wycombe match.

Max Bird is eyeing a comeback against Wycombe but might not start given his lengthy absence due to injury.

Dwight Gayle, who exited the Bolton game early due to an injury, is undergoing scans and is anticipated to return before the season ends, providing a boost to Derby’s attacking options.

Craig Forsyth’s calf problem initially seemed season-ending but he’s improving and likely to return before the campaign concludes.

Tom Barkhuizen, despite a calf injury, is set to return within a week, continuing his positive form.

Ryan Nyambe’s season is over due to a quad injury that required surgery.

Tyreece John-Jules, who hurt his hamstring against Reading, is progressing in his recovery and could feature for Derby again this season, barring any setbacks.

Jake Rooney, recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury since September, is making good progress and might return to training before the season concludes.
