Red Bull Facing Max Verstappen Exit Amidst Mercedes Interest

Max Verstappen of Red Bull recently discussed his future at Red Bull in light of Mercedes ties. Despite Toto Wolff, the team’s manager, trying to entice Max Verstappen to leave for Mercedes, Red Bull is apparently confident that Verstappen won’t. Where Verstappen will go next has been the subject of much discussion, particularly since he hinted that he might depart to support Helmut Marko, his team adviser.

However, Red Bull feels that Verstappen won’t be leaving anytime soon, as reported by The Mirror. He stated to reporters last weekend in Australia that he intends to honour his current contract, which is set to expire in 2028.

Wolff will be disappointed by this since he had hoped to add Verstappen to his team to take the place of Lewis Hamilton, who is leaving to join Ferrari at the end of the season. In an attempt to patch things up, Wolff has even had private conversations with Verstappen and his father Jos; however, no formal discussions about Verstappen joining Mercedes have taken place as of yet.

Verstappen’s initial threat of quitting Red Bull appears to have diminished for the time being due to the possibility of super adviser Marko leaving the company. The main participants in the team’s internal strife are still at odds, but their tense truce holds. Horner’s role seems to have been secured by Verstappen, despite Marko’s unsuccessful attempts to remove him from it. In order to support the Dutchman in winning an F1 drivers’ championship for the fourth time in a row, both parties have decided that it is in their best interests to keep cooperating for the time being.

With the backing of Austrian business executives Franz Watzlawick and Oliver Mintzlaff, as well as Red Bull majority shareholder Chalerm Yoodivhya, Horner’s position is still solid. He is still being accused of acting inappropriately, though, as the female coworker who made the original complaint has challenged the company’s decision to reject it.

She has also lodged a complaint with the FIA, and should her appeal fail, she will probably take the case before an employment tribunal. Nevertheless, it’s understood that she intends to rejoin Red Bull Racing despite her current suspension.

Meanwhile, Wolff has come under fire for allegedly having a hidden agenda after openly courting Verstappen in the course of looking for Hamilton’s replacement. Although the Mercedes CEO acknowledged that Verstappen would be his top choice to partner with George Russell in the upcoming campaign, Jacques Villeneuve believes Wolff is being shrewd.
