Rehanne Skinner: Following Chelsea’s loss, the West Ham manager expresses her “sickness” of making poor choices.

West Ham and Chelsea players shake hands after defeatAfter falling short against Chelsea in the Women’s Super League, West Ham was left feeling let down.

After seeing a goal against Chelsea on Sunday disallowed, West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner claims she is “getting a bit sick” of bad calls.

Replays showed that Honoka Hayashi was onside, but the Hammers fell 2-0 against Emma Hayes’ team in the Women’s Super League.

The manager of the Hammers thinks it’s worth considering using a video assistance referee (VAR) in women’s soccer.

According to Skinner, “the goal was more than a metre onside,” Sky Sports said.

Aggie Beever-Jones gave Chelsea the lead early on, but only 12 minutes later, Hayashi’s goal was flagged offside, which may have had a significant impact on the outcome of the match.

The Japan midfielder was behind the last defender when she sprinted on to a flicked header, and replays showed the goal should have been allowed. However, there was no way to reverse the judgment in the absence of VAR.

“Last week [against Liverpool] there were two goals scored against us, neither of which should have stood,” she said.

“After the Tottenham match, we received another apology for a goal that was clearly offside. To be honest, I’m becoming a little tired of it.”

Skinner called for changes to the game while acknowledging that West Ham had generated several chances that they did not take.

For the first time since their WSL meeting against Liverpool on April 2, 2023, the Hammers failed to muster a shot on goal throughout the game.

“We have had chances today and need to make sure we take those chances, but the way that the game goes on, we cannot keep having those type of mistakes in games because it completely ruins the game,” she said.

“In the end, I wouldn’t be employed if that was how I conducted business.

“I’ve just reached the stage where it happens almost every week. After the game doesn’t alter the result, I apologize.

Following the decision to uphold Jess Park’s opening goal for Manchester City on Saturday despite an offside in the build-up, Marc Skinner, the manager of Manchester United, also expressed his support for video assistant refereeing in women’s soccer.

“If that’s the argument we need to start getting results right, then that’s what we need to start doing,” the manager of the Hammers said.

“In the end, the referees in this game are still not professionals, so they aren’t really in a position where they are just working on these games. That has to be altered.

“The game has still got so much growing up to do, we are still not right across the board in the game,” she said.

“After Tottenham lost 2-1 to Liverpool and received an apology the following day stating that the goal shouldn’t have stood, I lost my job at Tottenham.” It must be improved.”
