Derby County pair could return against Cobblers but key player set to miss out

Derby County could see the return of midfielder Tyrese Fornah and striker Conor Washington this weekend, but Dwight Gayle is unlikely to be available due to a hamstring injury sustained in the previous match against Bolton. Manager Paul Warne provided an update on Gayle’s injury, estimating a recovery period of around four weeks.

Fornah, who has been sidelined with a back issue, is now fit again and could feature in the upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Washington returned to full training last week after being out since November, which is a positive sign for Derby.

However, there are still long-term absentees such as Tyreece John-Jules, Ryan Nyambe, and Jake Rooney, while doubts remain over goalkeeper Josh Vickers and midfielder Max Bird.

Despite claiming a crucial 1-0 win against Bolton Wanderers, Warne emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency for the remaining matches in the League One season. The win kept Derby in second place with a four-point lead over third, but Warne stressed that there are still 21 points left to play for and the team must continue to perform at a high level to secure automatic promotion.

Warne’s approach is to remain grounded and not get carried away with one victory, highlighting the need for consistency and resilience as they approach the final stretch of the season.
