A new era is about to begin as Borna Barisic supposedly approaches the Rangers’ departure.
Borna Barisic was a relative unknown who had faced the team in Europe before he was signed by Rangers.
In the Europa League Qualifying round of 2018, Steven Gerrard led his local club, NK Osijek, against the Rangers in his first season as manager of the team. He even had a goal at Ibrox.
After making such an impact, Steven Gerrard almost immediately signed Borna Barisic, and the two have been in a six-year relationship ever since.
Rangers and Croatian football players simply seem to click, and Borna Barisic has followed in the footsteps of Dado Prso, Nikica Jelavic, Niko Kranjcar, and Niko Katic in joining the team.
However, if the most recent information from Turkey is to be trusted, it seems that an era will be ending at Ibrox this summer.
Trabzonspor to Borna Barisic
Borna Barisic, one of the most paid players in the squad, is one of six Rangers first team players whose contracts expire in the summer.
The left-back, who is 31 years old, has seen that Ridvan Yilmaz is playing more and more of a lead role. Last week, there were rumors that Trabzonspor was about to attack.
These noises have been a little louder this week because to the player’s attendance at the TransferRoom conference in Italy and the most recent information from Turkey.
Borna Barisic has been with the Rangers for six years, but according to Takvim, the left-back has “green-lighted” a transfer to Trabzonspor this summer.
A new chapter ends for Rangers’ left back
Although the Rangers fan base has shown support for Borna Barisic, it’s reasonable to conclude that he has had his share of highs and lows at Ibrox based on the news.
The Rangers left-back had trouble making an impression on the team at first, but he gained the courage to speak out and be recognized after a valiant free kick against St. Mirren.
With Borna, too, confidence is most definitely the operative word. There was a period when the Croatian international seemed ready for a major move, and his left foot was as sharp as ever.
However, Borna’s mentally fragile state and injuries have sometimes derailed his otherwise successful Rangers career, during which we have become used to him supporting the left side of the defense.
The left-back had the best crossing of any player we’ve ever had at the position, and on his best day, he was a determined, hard-working, and potentially deadly option.
Rangers supporters will always be grateful to him for providing us the finest years of his career, and if Borna Barisic moves to Trabzonspor, there may be a few tears shed!
Borna Barisic has appeared in 230 games with the Rangers, contributing 54 assists and 10 goals.
In addition to his 35 appearances for Croatia, the left-back has won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup winners’ medals. He also assisted the team in reaching the 2022 Europa League Final.
