“Silly points”: Chris Sutton made an intriguing comment about Celtic and Rangers last night on Sky Sports.

Celticā€™s meeting with Rangers on December 30 is edging ever closer.Ā

After tasting victory at Ibrox last time out,Ā CelticĀ and Brendan Rodgers will want more of the same.

The gap at the top of the table is eight points, after both Celtic and Philippe Clementā€™s Rangers picked up wins last night ā€“ the latter have a game in hand.

If you had offered Celtic fans this current situation at the start of the season, then everyone would have accepted it.

But Chris Sutton thinks that ā€˜there is a title race on this seasonā€™ and he feels ā€˜Celtic havenā€™t been at their very bestā€™, as he toldĀ Sky Sports FootballĀ (06/12/23 at 10:25 pm).

It needs to be noted that the Bhoys are still unbeaten after a very positive 4-1 win over Hibernian, but it canā€™t be denied that the players havenā€™t really let loose on a consistent basis.

Whilst a win for Celtic against Rangers on December 30 would all but end talk of a title race for some ā€“Ā just ask Michael StewartĀ ā€“ the outspoken Chris Sutton interestingly thinks that itā€™s game on.

Celtic and Rangers title race

ā€œThese periods of games, they come thick and fast,ā€ said Sutton. ā€œItā€™s a really important period of games.

ā€œCeltic havenā€™t been at their very best. Rangers need to make sure they donā€™t drop silly points. They did drop silly points at Aberdeen.

ā€œBut I think there is a title race on this season, I do. You have the European fixture coming up.ā€
