Keaon Koloamatangi has come to the defense of his South Sydney teammate, Latrell Mitchell, following criticism from Anthony Mundine. Mundine had questioned Mitchell’s stance amidst a racism controversy involving Ezra Mam and Spencer Leniu. The disagreement originated on social media, with Mundine defending Leniu and claiming that Mam’s insult wasn’t racially motivated.

Mitchell responded strongly, denouncing Mundine’s viewpoint as “absolute nonsense” and urging him to “improve.” Mundine, in turn, retaliated on Facebook, questioning Mitchell’s right to comment on the issue.

Koloamatangi supported Mitchell’s right to speak out, highlighting his contributions both on and off the field. He emphasized Mitchell’s influence as a public figure and his role as a leader in the Indigenous community.

Despite Mundine’s criticism extending to Mitchell’s performance in games, Koloamatangi praised Mitchell’s recent form and leadership qualities. He defended Mitchell against undue blame when the team underperforms, emphasizing his positive impact on the team’s morale and competitive spirit.

Koloamatangi concluded by expressing confidence in Mitchell’s ability to handle such criticism, citing his experience on big stages like State of Origin and representing Australia.
