The three teams from Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton that will be promoted to the Premier League have been predicted by Jamie Carragher.
After Sheffield United’s 6-0 loss to Arsenal, Carragher delivered his assessment, saying that Burnley, Luton Town, and the Blades seemed like three Championship teams in the Premier League this year.
In what has been a unique promotion race, he added, the three demoted teams—Leeds, Leicester, and Southampton—have seemed like three Premier League teams in the Championship.
Promotion would have been easy for all three clubs, but thanks to a fantastic season from recently promoted Ipswich, there is now a fierce competition amongst the four clubs for the final two positions.
However, Carragher predicted during his appearance on Monday Night Football that all three of the demoted teams would return to the Premier League at the first opportunity.
Carragher predicts a promotion
“It’s felt like we’ve had three Premier League clubs in the Championship and the Championship has three Premier League clubs for the majority of the season,” he stated. “I think those three clubs are probably going to come back and these three will drop down.”
It shows just how important dropped points can be in this race with the fact Leeds’ dressing room reacted to the draw at Huddersfield Town as though it was a defeat.
