With 21 points apiece, Vince William and Santi Aldama are leading Memphis.

This time, at least, they avoided getting 30-pieced.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers just played two games back-to-back on two different nights at FedEx Forum, so no, you’re not seeing Groundhog’s Day. Fans of the Grizzlies lost both games, which is unfortunate, but perhaps even more frustrating was how they lost the second one.

In overtime, the Blazers defeated the Grizzlies after leading by as much as eighteen points.

Huge congratulations to Anfernee Simons, who scored eighteen points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help Portland win. Portland defeated Memphis 12 to 7 in bonus time.

For the last two minutes of regulation, the Blazers kept the Grizzlies scoreless. They also forced a season-high 24 turnovers, which Portland turned into 24 points.

Portland shot better than Memphis overall (42.4% to 36.1%), but the Grizzlies outshot the Blazers from three-point range (37.5% to 31.4%).

Memphis has struggled to find significant players this season, but the Grizzlies were not helped by Jaren Jackson Jr.’s absence on the second night. It didn’t help that they once again have a lineup that seems more suited for the G-League.

These guys are getting more court time, which is beneficial for their development as players, but only if there are more seasoned NBA players to keep things in balance.

Vince Williams Jr. ended up shooting 7 of 14 overall and 4 of 7 from beyond the arc for a team-high 21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.

Santi Aldama finished the game with a total of 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and a 5 of 9 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

GG Jackson, who finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals, was the only other Grizzlies player to score in double figures.
