John Hartson criticizes Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist in a brutally honest manner

With Joe Hart’s current contract scheduled to expire in the summer of 2020, Celtic’s goalkeeping issue has been a major talking point.

The 36-year-old’s tendency to commit errors, which he has done in both the Premiership and the Champions League this season, only serves to reignite the controversy.

Benjamin Siegrist, a free agent signed in the summer of 2022 following his success at Dundee United, is one of Celtic’s backup goalkeepers.

John Hartson told Go Radio at the time that he believed “everyone in Scotland” would have signed the 31-year-old because he was “the best goalkeeper in the country.”

However, looking ahead, the former striker believes that the Swiss star’s situation has just not worked out.

Benjamin Siegrist has only made two appearances for the Celtics, and he is even having trouble getting on the bench for Brendan Rodgers this year.

“When Celtic acquired Siegrist, he was the best goalkeeper in the nation,” Hartson remarked.

“He hasn’t been participating. Siegrist would have been signed by everyone. Siegrist would have been signed by every Scottish person.

“It hasn’t quite worked out the way the player and the club probably thought it would.”

In January, Celtic must reduce the playing team.

Following their equally unfortunate elimination from the Champions League, the focus has shifted to the team and its caliber.

Talk about the team needing to add more players before the January transfer window has arisen as a result; Chris Sutton called Kris Boyd a “fool” on Sky after his remarks.

But in addition to that, the team also needs to be trimmed, as several players are no longer under contract or play very little.
