This season, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic have brought in three players on loan. The first is Nat Phillips, a center-back who came from Rodgers’ previous team, Liverpool. Phillips’ time at Parkhead wasn’t successful; he made only eight appearances altogether and started just three Scottish Premiership games. It was only a matter of time until he was duly called up to Anfield in January.

In a rematch of their 2021 pursuit of Jota, Celtic soon after reached a provisional agreement to sign midfielder Paulo Bernardo from Benfica on the last day of the summer transfer window. The two clubs’ deal includes a buyout option, however it’s not known how much the Hoops would have to pay.

Ultimately, at the end of January, Celtic managed to get a short-term deal for Adam Idah, the striker for Norwich City, without the option to purchase. That does not imply, though, that he will not play football in Glasgow the following year.

Idah gives Celtic some good news.

After the season, Idaho is open to permanently joining Celtic, according to Football Insider. Having made the move from the Championship, he has obviously settled in well in Scotland and is open to the notion of sticking put should Celtic make a strong drive.

The Irishman is reportedly very interested in playing in the Champions League, but for that wish to come true, Celtic and Norwich will need to come to an independent transfer agreement. Whether or if the Canaries push a hard bargain is still up for debate.

Idah enjoys life, but she has to accept the realities of the Champions League.

Given Idah’s strong start, you would think Celtic is already considering a long-term contract with him. Shortly after making his debut against Aberdeen at the beginning of the month, he set up fellow January addition Nicolas Kuhn for an assist. He later scored two penalties on his league debut against Hibernian, including the game-winning one in the 92nd minute.

He scored another goal in the 94th minute to break the draw, capping off an earlier header that Chris Sutton described as “absolutely stunning” in the match against Motherwell. Last weekend, he pulled off more late heroics.

The Liverpool ‘keeper could be out of Brendan Rodgers’ reach.

Idah had been denied consistent starting opportunities at Norwich, making the XI for just 12 of their first 29 Championship games, and so it’s no surprise that he’s enjoying himself in a more prominent role at Celtic.

One thing that the 23-year-old should consider, amid his desire to play Champions League football, is that Scotland could be about to lose their automatic qualification spot. The country’s under-performance in Europe this season – Rangers are the only side remaining in any of the three tournaments – puts them at risk of surrendering their spot in the coefficient rankings for the 2025/26 season.

How the UEFA coefficient looks
Rank Association Points Clubs remaining in Europe
10 Scotland 35.850 1 (Rangers)
11 Czechia 35.300 3 (Sparta Prague, Slavia Prague, Viktoria Plzen)
12 Switzerland 32.575 1 (Servette)
13 Austria 32.400 1 (Sturm Graz)
14 Denmark 31.450 1 (Copenhagen)
15 Norway 31.125 1 (Molde)

Celtic will be hoping that the three Czech sides in the Europa League and Europa Conference League make swift exits to relieve the pressure, but if not, it could soon become more difficult for them to reach the continent’s premier club competition.
