England Recall “close but not quite” -Jack Butland.

With his strong performances since joining Rangers, goalkeeper Jack Butland feels that an England recall is “definitely closer.”

The 30-year-old, who had previously spent time on loan at Manchester United in 2023, moved from Crystal Palace to Ibrox last summer.

Although he only earned nine caps in 2018, he is hoping to make Gareth Southgate’s side for the 2024 European Championship.

“People have been selected for England from Scotland before,” remarked Butland.

“It’s not impossible, but it’s also not guaranteed.

The distance between them is undoubtedly smaller now than it was three, four, or even five years ago. That’s the best I’ve played in that amount of time.

“I’ve attended important competitions. I would like attending one more. I still think I have a lot to give. That results from carrying out my duties here, which brings me up in the discussion. Great if that gets me in. We just continue if it doesn’t.”

Butland has played 42 games this season for Rangers, the top team in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers will play Benfica in the Europa League last 16, and Butland’s performance has generated rumors that he could return to England in January.

However, he stated to BBC Scotland that “it was a no on all fronts from the get go”.

His words, “I’m enjoying it,” “There’s too much to do and too much to accomplish.

“I haven’t had this connection or feeling in a club in a very long time. It’s difficult to give that up.”
